Wisconsin municipalities have wide ranging approaches to tree removal and subsequent tree disposals. Wisconsin Urban Wood (WUW) develops custom agreements with Municipalities that enable them to positively impact removal and disposal costs by diverting logs to local processors and wood using businesses.
WUW Municipalities are exemplary urban forest champions with reputations for excellence in forestry practices and an important part of our network. When public trees must be removed from WUW municipalities, the trees live on through
• Local wood related jobs,
• Enduring goods, and
• Public support of sustainable urban forest practices.
As WUW partners, municipalities achieve
• Cost neutral operations or cost savings,
• Health advantages for removal crews,
• Improved waste management, and
• Community confidence in the way their forest is cared for.
WUW builds urban wood utilization models based on the unique needs, capacity, and cultures of individual municipalities and counties. Any department or individual can initiate a potential agreement. The models below have proven to increase urban forest benefits for budgets, crews, and communities.
A sustainable urban wood economy is truly a joint effort. Each municipality in the WUW network makes sourcing and marketing urban wood easier and a more reliable resource; businesses in the network make and provide quality goods for sale; and communities enjoy knowing their trees found their highest uses, and enjoy buying the wood from trees that grew up around them. We encourage municipalities to contribute to the statewide effort to recover urban wood as a sustainable material and source of pride for your community. How might we help you?
